The Mull of Galloway Guided Walks are a stunning option to do any time of year, but May in particular is a great time to go to see this nature walk in full flourish. Being on the coast of Scotland provides beautiful views of the sea, along with its unique wildlife – some have even viewed porpoises and basking sharks from this walk! Fun for all the family and very inexpensive, these guided walks are popular with many of our motorhome holidaymakers.
If you’re a keen walker, or just aspire to be, you may enjoy the Newton Stewart Walking Festival held each May. It’s the largest walking festival in the south of Scotland and offers many different walks for you to experience the many different landscapes Scotland has to offer, from hill walks, coastal walks and beautiful forests, you can experience it all in this festival. With evening events, and guided routes for all abilities, there’s something for everyone on this festival.
Looking to listen to some traditional Scottish Folk music? The Girvan Traditional Folk Festival might just be for you! Held from May 1st til the 3rd this year, this weekend festival features something for everyone; Concerts, Sessions, Competitions, Workshops, Children’s events and even a campsite for you to park you motorhome! This seaside town springs to life in May, and is a great place for the whole family to enjoy while you are travelling in your luxury motorhome.
If you don’t plan on arriving until later on in May in hopes of warmer weather, why not consider the Spring Fling, held on the 23rd – 25th of May this year? It’s Scotland’s premier art and craft open studio event, where Scottish artists and makers open up their studios for visitors to explore. It’s a great chance to stop over in an artist’s workshop on your travels in your motorhome and experience something a little different; from metal work to shoe making, performance art to jewellery, there’s something exciting to experience in every studio.
If you’re looking for a relaxing motorhome escape where you can read and take in some history at your own pace, you might enjoy spending some time at the Boswell Book Festival from the 8th – 10th on May. Set in a beautiful 18th Century Estate Country House, Dumfries House, this fantastic venue is something worth visiting even if you aren’t a book lover. James Boswell was an author and is known to be the inventor of the modern biographer, and the Boswell Book Festival focuses on biographies because of this, in fact they are known to be the world’s only festival of biography and memoir!
If you are more into sports than books, there’s plenty for you to get up to in bonny Scotland in May. From the Scottish Windsurfing Championships on the 16th – 17th of May this year, or there’s rugby’s biggest party The Emirates Airline Rugby 7s on the 9th and 10th! The world’s greatest rugby nations – New Zealand, South Africa, Australia, Fiji, France, Scotland & England – compete in nine events in the tournament. There’s music, entertainment, fancy dress and lots of fun to be had, so it’s certainly worth a visit if you’re a sports fan planning on holidaying in your luxury motorhome in May!
If you’re a bit of a foodie and are looking try the best of Scottish Cuisine, why not visit the Taste of Scotland Masterclass on May 21st where you’ll be able to try the best Scottish foods matched with wines from around the world. With seafood, game, preserves and cheeses – all made right here in Scotland – there’s plenty to tantalise your taste buds!
